JUS†ICE AUDIO VIDEO DISCO REVIEWO

Sooo, I usually don't read reviews until after I listen to a record so that I can have something to validate me afterwards But since there was so much hooplah about the sophomore attempt by Gaspard and Xavier, I couldn't help myself. And the reviews align right up with what the guys said themselves: "we're not trying to do † again."  And this album definitely is different. But not so much of a departure that they sound like a different band.  The french filters and the 80's-car-crusin analog sound that is commonplace on Ed Banger releases is all there, and to beautiful effect.  The album builds song to song. I recall the guys saying that their first album was an electro-oprea or something, and this was definitely done in the spirit of telling a story with extremely pleasing melodies -- this is their mid-evil rock opera.  I love the record.  But I'm not in love with it.  Musically it's super tight and sounds awesome (I wonder who did the mastering).  Xavier said in a Rolling Stone interview that this is bedroom rock - well - I could definitely see myself running home after school, throwing this on the turntable jumping on my bed through all.

WATCH THE THRONE FAIL

Maybe hate isn't quite fair, but watch the throne leaves something to be desired.  All the hype, the artwork, the mini documentary and I was left with a forced, over dramatic and sloppy effort by two of my favorite rappers.  I'd stop just short of saying this record is awful because it does have a few tracks that keep me occupied. Those being Niggas In Paris, Otis and Murder To Excellence.  Maybe I'm just showing my age, but I can't listen to this without thinking of ALL of the classic records that preceded Watch The Throne.  I can't even give it cool points as being an experimental record because, frankly, it's not. Sampling Nero and and Cassius seemed like Kanye (or whomever really produced the record) just co-opting trends.  Unlike Stronger which pretty much put dance music back into the pop consciousness.  I mean, they recorded the album in someones living room in Australia. And it sounds like it.  The record is boring, uninteresting and not Hell Hath No Fury... so they already started the race behind.  For all of you who dig the record, I don't think you're crazy.  Just being a huge fan of both of them I was underwhelmed. This is not a memorable record. Too much Ye trying to be Jay and too much Jay trying to be young.

And come on, All of The Lights had 25 people singing on it. Amazing.

I give it 2 Zamber Roses out of 5.

clipse on abc news

cocaine still cool?

the clipse have always been one of my favorite entities in hip hop music. their artistry with words has always been a focal point of mine and have kept them on my "top" lists. however, the string of singles that they've released so far coupled with some pretty cliche, digitally (inexpensively) shot, music videos i'm afraid they're losing their gusto. read somewhere that the clipse were unique because not only were malice and pusha equally good with words and survived the wanna-be-thug era, but they were so good at talking about cocaine and avoiding saying the same thing twice.

now, this latest street single door man just seems lazy. it's a banger, but its almost completely devoid of their trademark creativity. i will say, i like almost anything the clipse do so i'm not mad perse just a bit disappointed. and hoping when 'the casket' does drop, i'll be happy.

FUNNY PEOPLE IN REVIEW / NEW YORKER

Now that I've gotten my imagination fix with Harry Potter Transformers, I'm super excited about the new Judd Apatow flick 'Funny People' with my favorite Semites Adam, Jona and Seth.

TWEET GENIUS: SOCIAL SCOPE BETA BEAT YOU TO IT

Today on Cinco De Mayo, I managed to drunkenly download the long awaited and hyped 1.0.0 version of TweetGenius developed by one of my favorite blogs The Boy Genius Report.


After using the Alpha version of Social Scope for a few weeks and then Social Scope finally releasing their Beta last week, and being thoroughly impressed with it. I was a bit reluctant to buy TG for $4.99. But I did anyway.

First Impressions:

- Slow
- Looks like social scope
- UI is a bit cheesy.

But they did think liven the user interface up with some animations. TweetGenius is ascetically on point with many aspects of the iPhone, Mac computers' UI. But you can't help but think that all of the bells and whistles prevent TG from being as fast as it could be.

The speed has definitely made it a sour experience for me. Almost regretting my purchase. But I will stick with it hoping that the next build fixes the speed issue.

If you want it. Get it. If you don't, don't. After all, its just Twitter.
