Rest in Power, Technics

Some sad news in the DJ/audiophile world, the Panasonic's Technic series of turntables are discontinued. Popular among DJ's for the past 40 years (incase you were under a rock) the Technics are a standard, the bees knees,  the sweetness of any serious DJs setup.  The digital era is not only killing the music industry but DJ standards as well. Now, I'm no old guy, I don't really have too many "I remember when"memoreis about the turntables. However when I did start DJaying not too long ago, I could have just as easily bought some CDJs and called it a wrap. But I wanted to be a turntablist. And what do turntablists use? Exactly. I'm not knocking CDJ users or the fact that they exist, but the feel of putting a record on, finding the song, the crackle and being scared that the damn thing is going to skip is an irreplaceable feeling.

I am super glad I was able to grab a pair when I did because they'll soon be ancient relics worth a bunch of money.  A friend and I checked eBay today and they're already up to $1k plus. Garage sale time if you're looking to grab a pair before the rest of the world catches on.

In a way I feel fortunate to be a part of last generation of DJs that saw the Technics in production, however I'm sad that it's going to be tough for kids in the future to get their vintage groove on unless they're caking.

Video killed the radio star and digi killed the DJ (kinda. thats for another post). RIP Technic 1200s.
